What is the rhetorical situation of your favorite song?

One of my all-time favorite songs is "Graduation" by the one and only, Ari Zizzo. Every one of his songs has a unique rhetorical situation. The purpose of this song in particular, is to tell a story. Graduation describes Ari’s experiences as a teenager and how people helped him throughout his life; in the chorus he addresses how he will never forget them or where he comes from. Generally, Ari’s audience are his viewers from YouTube, however, with the new EP “Somehow”, I think the target audience may have changed. Instead of making covers and trying to satisfy his YouTube viewers’ wants, he went for a broader target audience: everyone. Almost everyone can relate to his new music one way or another and that is exactly what he was aiming for. This song appeals mainly to one’s pathos; you can feel the emotion Zizzo puts behind the lyrics and when he performs live you can distinctly hear which lines were the most difficult to compose. Furthermore, the song’s mood is relaxed, it works with the lyrics. The song is entitled Graduation because he is reminiscing, each verse explains this entirely. The story as a whole is told throughout the entire song, however, in each verse there is another individual story. The mood is calm, relaxed, and reminiscent and that is acted out with an acoustic guitar and soft drum throughout the entire song. The style of Graduation could be categorized as alternative or it could even fit into the pop genre, it is very versatile. The genre conventions for this song, being alternative, are that it should sound different, mostly that the music should be performed in a group, and that electronic “instruments” that aren’t really instruments should be used. Ari subvert these conventions because he only utilizes a handful of real instruments and he is a solo artist. Overall, an amazing song by an even better artist; definitely worth checking out.
