The exigence of the meme is the fact that you cannot have Chick-Fil-A on Sundays. The mode is visual and text-based. This meme stimulates your sense of taste and smell because when you read it, it makes you think of the food you can’t have. It also makes you feel something because of the coloring and the face. The creator of this meme took into account that children make over expressive faces and if they used a child’s face, more people could relate more. Unhappiness was conveyed because of the little girl’s face and the use of a black and white photo. The background is also blurred so that the audience focuses mainly on the facial expression. The media for this piece is digital. Memes are mainly distributed through social medias such as Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter. The target audience for this meme and other memes is young people and teens. The style of this meme follows the design of other memes that have become popular over the past couple years. For example, the font and all caps conveys the wanted message whereas the use of lower case letters and a less structured font would gain a different response from young people. This is a familiar meme type with the font, coloring, and placement of the image and words. The rhetorical appeal used would be pathos because of the empathy that can be formed from you, the audience, and the girl in the picture. The overall purpose of the meme is to get people to agree or empathize with the creator or other people that want Chick-Fil-A on Sundays. I would say the meme is quite effective and follows the conventions of the meme genre, therefore, it could become popular and well-known in the social media spectrum.
