Persuasive Genres

The Huffington Post falls under the text-based persuasive genre because it is a democratically biased source of news. One of the most recent articles about Donald Trump regarding the situation with Russia is overwhelmingly democratic. Although this is not a bad thing, it is something that should be taken note of when consuming news from certain outlets; just as this source is democratic, Fox is republican in all aspects. The purpose of this article is to persuade people into thinking the events occurred a certain way when in actuality there are multiple sides to the story. The audience is the general public and/or people that are using the internet for news, mostly the younger generations. The rhetorical appeal used mostly is logos because Huffington Post is appealing to the logical processes of those consuming their news. The media is text-based and the mode is online news websites. The design of the articles regarding Donald Trump and Russia, is that of few pictures and chunky paragraphs, to draw the most attention to the photos and headlines, rather than the information itself. This is a tactic many news outlets use to easily distribute the main information they want audiences to consume and The Huffington Post is not alone is this false advertisement industry. This piece could easily be adapted into an SNL skit as some other events with Donald Trump already have been. That type of media plays on word choice; and tweets of Mr. Trump's would really be what play a role in the representation of his character.
