Narrative Genres

One work that comes to mind regarding the narrative genre is the book called A Beautiful Boy. It is a non-fiction book, well more of a memoir, about a family that has a member who become addicted to various types of drugs. The narrator in this book forms a close connection with you, the reader, and also explains his relationships with the other characters (people) mentioned in the book. This text-based source of narration's purpose is to inform people of certain circumstances having to do with drug abuse and how it plays a role in the family dynamic. The audience of this book and the author is more of a mature audience. The father wrote A Beautiful Boy with the intentions to share his story and his family's story to people his age or those that have experienced similar events. The rhetorical appeal used mostly is ethos to form a bond with the reader and become a more relatable narrator. The mode is visual and text-based and the media is through hardback books, or general media with its being mentioned in newspapers when first published. The style adds to the purpose because without the narration of the author, the book would seem to be more of a story rather than what it more so is, a memoir. This book could most certainly be transposed into a podcast with hosts that answer live questions from an inquiring audience, or even a television show with a twisted plot and multiple possible outcomes. I think it could be a phenomenal mystery show in fact because of all the twists and turns, maybe one day that will happen.
